August 28, 2025 | Strathroy, ON – The Strathroy Rockets officially wrapped up their first appearance at the Eli Palfreyman Global Invitational, held in Ayr, Ontario from August 21–24. The event brought together top junior and prep programs from across the region, drawing heavy scouting presence from both NCAA Division I and NHL organizations.
While the invitational was an opportunity for other clubs to ice their full lineups, the Rockets used the week as an important evaluation period, showcasing prospects, affiliate players, and rookies eager to make an impression. Despite a challenging schedule, the event delivered promising signs for the Rockets’ future as they prepare for the 2025–26 GOJHL regular season.
Tournament Breakdown
-
Game 1 vs. Cambridge – The Rockets opened the event with a 5–2 loss, dressing a limited roster to give evaluation opportunities to summer prospects. Goaltender Mason Costa (Owen Sound Attack 2nd-round OHL pick) was a standout, making 34 saves on 39 shots while battling through heavy penalty minutes that saw Strathroy shorthanded for nearly 40 minutes.
-
Game 2 vs. St. Andrew’s College Prep – Facing a heavily scouted lineup that featured multiple NCAA commitments and NHL prospects, the Rockets impressed at 5-on-5 play, but were undone by penalty trouble (58 minutes) in a 3–0 defeat. Netminder Seth Ronan was strong, stopping 36 of 39 shots. Despite the result, several Rockets attracted direct NCAA conversations, with potential visits scheduled for 2025.
-
Game 3 vs. Caledon Bombers – Playing with a skeleton roster due to suspensions, the Rockets fell in a lopsided result against a full Caledon lineup. Still, it was a breakout performance for rookie Jake Ritson, who recorded six points, while fellow rookies Joshua Lapinski and Seth Clark each scored their first goals in Rockets colours.
-
Game 4 vs. First Assist Trappers – With most of the roster returning, the Rockets finished the event in dominant fashion, defeating the Trappers 13–1. Costa turned away 15 of 16 shots, while the Rockets’ offence exploded: Jaxson Cragg (hat trick), Cole Dotterman (1G, 2A), Rogers (2G, 1A), and Zach Leblanc (6 points) paced the attack. Leblanc finished the event as the tournament’s leading scorer with 12 points (3 points/game average), solidifying himself as a player to watch this season.
